3 Simple Steps To Bring the Outdoors In

3 Simple Steps To Bring the Outdoors In

I’m an outdoorsy kind of guy. If I had a choice to be either outside or inside at any given time, it would definitely be outside. Sometimes, though, being outdoors just isn’t feasible. For those times, I like to find creative ways to bring the outside, inside. To help you do the same, I’ve curated a list of a few different ways you can easily bring the outdoors into your space (without compromising the environment).

MAGNIFY NATURAL LIGHTING

One of the easiest ways to bring the outdoors into your home or office is to invite in all the natural lighting. Short of installing windows (‘cause, ya know, that’s impractical), there are a few ways you can maximize natural lighting from the outdoors while maintaining an environmentally-friendly space.

Mirror, mirror on the wall.

Mirrors are your best friends when it comes to magnifying natural lighting inside. Some might even say it’s okay to go a little mirror crazy. It’s possible to do so without compromising your style or looking tacky. Take a look at some of these awesomely inspirational photos I pulled from #mirrors on Insta.

Light Colors & Natural Woods

Repainting your walls or adding pops of natural wood throughout your space might add the special touch you’re looking for to help bring the outdoors in. White, off-white, pale grey and other light shades of color are great options if you’re looking to capture the same effect of outdoor lighting on the inside. Choosing the right flooring and textures throughout your space will go a long way! Check out some of these images I pulled #naturallighting on Insta!

HIGHLIGHT NATURAL VIBES

Posters to the Rescue!

Believe it or not, posters are a cheap and easy way to bring pops of natural color into your home or office. Whether you’re looking to mimic a sunny day at the beach in the Bahamas or a beautiful jungle atmosphere, you can find posters for just about any mood. At the expense of sounding bio, I pulled some images from #naturalposters on Insta!

Plants Matter!

I’m sure you guessed before getting all the way through this post that adding live plants to your indoor space is a no-brainer when it comes to mirroring the outdoors. A quick Insta, Pinterest, or YouTube search will yield plenty of results that’ll help inspire you in your quest to bring the outdoors, in. To help, I’ve included a few of my favorites.

SMELLS ARE ESSENTIAL

Incense and natural oils are two great ways to capture the natural aromas you smell in the garden, at the beach, in the forest, or in a field of wildflowers. Lavender essential oils are one of my favorites! Patchouli incense is also great! But really, you can choose from an assortment of options depending on your mood that day. It’s hard to capture smell through imagery, but I’ve included some really great pictures of spaces that utilize essential oils and incense in their designs.
